Delhi to Launch “Namo Yamuna” Ferry Service Before Chhath Puja

Delhi is set to introduce a new ferry service on the Yamuna River just ahead of Chhath Puja, according to an announcement by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. The service, named “Namo Yamuna,” will commence a few days before the festival, which runs from November 13 to 16, offering a unique experience for both residents and visitors.

Chief Minister Gupta recently conducted an inspection of the ferry at Sonia Vihar Sports Club and also visited Sur Ghat, the site of the Chhath Puja celebrations. The area is being developed as a family-friendly picnic destination, where people can enjoy the river’s serene landscape while offering prayers.

The ferry will cover a route from Sonia Vihar to Jagatpur, spanning approximately five kilometers of the river. The one-hour journey promises picturesque views of the riverbanks and ghats. Tickets for the cruise are expected to be priced around ₹500 per person, providing a new recreational option for the city’s residents.

Originally slated for a February 20 launch, the ferry service faced delays due to incomplete project work. The infrastructure supporting the service includes jetties equipped with boarding facilities, ticket counters, and waiting areas to ensure a smooth experience for passengers.

The vessel, known as Island Boats 40 (IB 40), was constructed by Mumbai-based Inspiration Marine Pvt Ltd. The 40-foot catamaran-style boat is designed for stability and is well-suited for navigating the Yamuna’s shallow waters.
