India and Poland to Enhance Cooperation in Defence and Technology Sectors

by admin477351

India and Poland have committed to enhancing their cooperation across multiple sectors, including defence, nuclear energy, and advanced technologies. This decision follows discussions between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, where they also focused on the goal of doubling bilateral trade by 2030.

The leaders emphasized the potential for joint development and production in strategic areas such as defence equipment, space technology, and nuclear energy. Topics of cooperation also included critical minerals, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and fintech. Modi extended an invitation to Polish companies to engage in co-development and co-production with India, while Tusk highlighted the need to diversify access to critical minerals to bolster economic security.

Currently, the bilateral trade between India and Poland stands at approximately $6.3 billion, with both nations aiming to double this by 2030. A significant Polish business delegation is actively exploring opportunities in sectors like defence, agriculture technology, pharmaceuticals, food processing, mining, infrastructure, and technology.

Furthermore, the two countries plan to establish a bilateral startup bridge and explore partnerships in critical minerals and coal gasification. Indian officials are optimistic that the proposed India-European Union trade agreement will open additional avenues for exports and investments.

Defence cooperation is a significant priority for both nations, and they are working towards an agreement on the protection and exchange of classified information to support closer defence-industrial collaboration. Plans include establishing a defence industry dialogue and a counterterrorism dialogue, along with exploring joint manufacturing of military equipment, drones, and satellite technologies.

The broader strategic partnership between India and the European Union is expected to enhance this cooperation. Discussions also touched on regional and international issues, such as the Russia-Ukraine conflict and developments in West Asia. Modi reaffirmed India’s support for diplomatic efforts to achieve peace, and Polish officials welcomed India’s calls for a negotiated solution to the Ukraine conflict.

The meeting further strengthened India-Poland relations, with both governments committed to expanding trade, enhancing strategic cooperation, and building resilient supply chains. The leaders also acknowledged the historical people-to-people connections, including Poland’s assistance to Indian students evacuated from Ukraine in 2022 and the historical support provided to Polish refugees in India during World War II.
