During a recent meeting, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the importance of bolstering cooperation between China and India to maintain the positive trajectory in their bilateral relations. Engaging with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Wang highlighted the need for both nations to enhance high-level exchanges and expand collaboration across various sectors, including trade, media, and cultural interactions. He stressed the importance of managing sensitive issues through dialogue and advocated for increased coordination in regional and international matters. Wang suggested that China and India should jointly promote multipolarity and advocate for the interests of developing countries.
The Chinese foreign minister also reiterated Beijing’s support for India’s hosting of the BRICS summit this year, urging more robust collaboration within the enlarged BRICS framework. This reflects China’s commitment to working closely with India on platforms that are crucial for emerging economies.
Echoing these sentiments, Jaishankar expressed India’s dedication to nurturing a constructive and cooperative relationship with China. He reaffirmed India’s consistent stance on matters related to Taiwan and Xizang (Tibet), emphasizing India’s respect for China’s sovereignty in these regions.
