During a visit to Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation for development projects valued at approximately ₹35,000 crore. Speaking at the ‘NaMo for Viksit Bharat’ event in Vadodara, he emphasized the government’s commitment to boosting infrastructure and manufacturing sectors. Modi took the opportunity to critique the previous Congress-led administration, accusing it of procrastination in executing significant infrastructure projects. He celebrated the completion of India’s 2,800-km dedicated freight corridors as a transformative achievement for the nation’s transportation framework.
Modi addressed those skeptical of the freight corridor initiative, using the term “Naraz Fufa” (angry uncle) to describe them. He asserted that this modern freight network would enhance the efficiency of travel, reduce fuel usage, and lower logistics costs. Furthermore, he highlighted the potential benefits for the agricultural sector, emphasizing that faster transportation of produce to major markets would support farmers. According to Modi, over 430 freight trains are now operating daily on the Eastern and Western Dedicated Freight Corridors, reducing freight travel time from around 30 hours by road to just 10–12 hours via the new rail network.
In a political jab, Modi addressed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s youth outreach efforts, cautioning young people against what he termed as “Jhooth Ki Goonj” (echo of lies). He encouraged the youth to gain proficiency in artificial intelligence and pointed out the career possibilities in renewable and nuclear energy sectors. Highlighting advancements in domestic production, Modi noted the substantial growth in the manufacturing of railway coaches, locomotives, and wagons since 2014.
He also touched upon the expansion in solar energy, stating that rooftop solar installations now benefit 55 lakh families, including around 11 lakh households in Gujarat. Modi underlined the extensive infrastructure developments in railways, roads, airports, metros, pipelines, and housing, which he claimed are generating significant employment opportunities. He concluded by expressing confidence that India is establishing the necessary energy and technology frameworks to position itself as a global leader in artificial intelligence and other advanced industries.
