BJP Plans Statewide Rallies in Assam to Counter Congress Criticism

by admin477351

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced a series of rallies across the state, organized by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), from October 13 to October 31. This initiative aims to counter what the BJP perceives as efforts by the Congress party to undermine democratic institutions in India. The rallies will be held at district headquarters with the purpose of expressing support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and bolstering public confidence in constitutional institutions.

Speaking at a press conference in Guwahati, Sarma accused Congress and other opposition parties of politically challenging key institutions like the Election Commission and the Supreme Court. He criticized Congress’s stance against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, emphasizing its importance in addressing issues related to voter lists and illegal immigration in Assam.

In his statements, Sarma also targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of inconsistency in his reactions to electoral outcomes depending on the winning party. He further criticized Gandhi’s approach towards the Supreme Court, insisting that constitutional institutions should remain free from political pressure.

The BJP’s planned rallies are positioned as a demonstration of support for democratic institutions and a critique of the Congress party’s approach to electoral and constitutional matters. This initiative underscores the ongoing political tensions between the BJP and Congress, particularly concerning electoral processes and the independence of institutions in Assam.
