Google has introduced its Gemini in Chrome artificial intelligence features to Android users in India, enhancing the browsing experience with AI-powered capabilities. This update allows users to perform tasks such as summarizing webpages and integrating information across Google services directly within the Chrome browser.
Gemini in Chrome functions as an AI assistant, offering features like webpage summaries and connections with services such as Gmail and Calendar. Additionally, it includes image generation capabilities for Android users. A more advanced auto-browse feature is also being launched for desktop and Android devices, available to Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers in India.
This auto-browse feature empowers Gemini to navigate websites and carry out tasks on behalf of users, such as comparing products, finding deals, booking event tickets, making restaurant reservations, and scheduling appointments. It is specifically designed to manage complex, multi-step activities that typically require users to engage with multiple webpages and actions.
To ensure safe interaction with websites, Google has implemented safeguards within the AI browsing features. Gemini is programmed to identify potential threats, such as prompt-injection attempts, and users might be prompted to confirm sensitive actions before they are executed. These safety measures are crucial, especially since the AI can make changes, submit forms, and conduct transactions on users’ behalf.
The number of multi-step tasks that users can execute through the auto-browse feature is determined by their Google AI subscription tier. Google AI Pro subscribers are allowed up to 20 multi-step requests per day, while Google AI Ultra subscribers can perform up to 200 requests daily.
With this expansion, Google is integrating more advanced AI capabilities into Chrome, enabling users to leverage AI for performing a variety of tasks across the web, moving beyond simple inquiry-based interactions.
